The ramblings of a Renaissance Faire vendor & board member

So we went to Home Depot yesterday and looked around. We picked out a color for the walls & cabinets (China Cup by Behr), but they only have Disney wall borders & I’m just not that much of a fan, quite frankly. We looked at tile for backsplashes & pretty much decided that was what we want to do, now we need to find some colors that we actually like.

We went to Sherwin Williams after that to look at the wallpaper books & picked out a border (that I found at a discounter online after) that we both fell in love with. Then we talked about the hood & decided that we’d scrub it down, strip the old, bad paint job off of it & paint it red with appliance paint. I plan to look at rugs sometime this weekend to get an idea of what we have to choose from. This is so exciting!

Today is Troy’s payday, so of course we have to go & get groceries, pay the rent, probably the car payments, too. After that, I need to pick my daughter up at the school, figure out what we’re having for dinner & take care of that. Tonight we’re going to the high school football game & then over to Dawn’s to game. We’ll be leaving our daughter at the school for the back to school dance & I’ll have to get her at about midnight.

We would have had more to do, but my daughter & I went & got our hair cut last night instead of waiting until after school. I’ll try to get a good picture of mine at some point in the next couple of days & post it on Sunday.

I said I was going wedding dress shopping with Dawn & Morgan yesterday, but it didn’t happen. I got up, showered, got dressed and ready to go and sometime before 10:00am, Morgan texted me and told me that we weren’t going because her mom had food poisoning. I was a little put off about it, because I had noticed that she felt good enough earlier that day to play our group’s trivia challenge & figured she was just tired and used being sick as an excuse to go back to bed (as she’s been known to do), so I was a little short with my reply to her. I guess they plan to go today, but I bowed out, I’m not going to get ready and sit here waiting, just to be told that something else came up and they aren’t going. I hate getting excited to go do something and then being told its not happening. Especially just a few minutes before we’re supposed to go.

I just found out that when my friend Vicki wanted to rent the venue we’re wanting to use they wouldn’t allow you to bring food in. This does present a problem, because I’m not sure that I can afford to have them cater the reception & I am wondering if that also includes the cake, as I was at a wedding there earlier this spring & didn’t like the cake they had. I imagine that if they both go to work pretty quick here & help out with the costs, we could afford the catering, its only $3.50 a person after all.

I think I’m just going to have to really tighten down our budget to do all of this. I really want her to have her wedding where she wants it, and she fell in love with this location when we went to Mark & Sarah’s wedding, so you do what you have to.

I think I’ll buy her invitations (we’re printing our own) this payday & maybe the favor boxes, too, just so we have those & I feel like we’re doing something. I want to cover the boxes in a matching paper & put nice embellishments on them, too, so I really ought to start buying the stuff for them soon. Then the payday after that we’ll take Vicki with us & start picking out the flowers for her bouquet (Vicki is making it for her) and shortly after that I’ll need to order her dress, because I can’t match colors until it gets here.

Ack. I need help with this, but its almost impossible to ask your best friend when she’s helping her own daughter plan a wedding that’s 20 days after my daughter’s.

I’m not a scrapper, I just don’t have the patience or creativity to create beautiful layouts & witty journaling to go with all of our pictures, but I love scrapbooking paper and embellishments & do enjoy making cards. I got a catalog full of all of those things the other day & I can’t seem to stop looking at it, getting ideas for things I’d like to do, like soap labels and cards and signs for the booth. The sad thing is that I can’t afford to get any of the supplies I’m lusting after right now, not with Christmas coming up & me needing to put a deposit down on my daughter’s wedding venue (not to mention Senior portraits, graduation announcements and her cap & gown).

Well, hopefully things will loosen up a bit in the next couple of months or so, they’ll need to, because I can’t make products for my booth without buying supplies.

I sure wish it was Friday, so I could sleep in tomorrow, although I’m so tired today, I doubt that I’d make it through everything we’re doing Friday without either being grumpy or needing a nap. I doubt that I’ll make it through today without needing one. In about an hour I’m heading off to Dawn’s to go shopping for wedding dresses with her & Morgan, since we finally convinced her that she can’t wait until May to start shopping for her June wedding.

My daughter picked out her wedding dress last night, thankfully she isn’t going for a traditional look or even traditional colors, so shopping for her doesn’t require bridal shops. We also finally agreed on a location for her wedding & reception and just decided that we’ll have to come up with the money for it, somehow. It will most likely end up costing us less this way & will certainly be much less hassle. She’s going to ask her friend Caela to make her wedding cake & we’ll do the other stuff, like favors, ourselves.

I think its really funny that Dawn & I are both going through this at the same time, at least we have each other if Bridezilla rears her ugly head!

Gads, I’m lazy today. I did get the dishes done & the counters & such cleaned off, but I still haven’t managed to get the floor swept or anything done in the living room at all. Oh look! Its my laundry. Still sitting there, waiting to go in the washer. I took the turkey out for dinner, though & its almost time for me to start my spaghetti sauce. I think while I’m doing that, I’ll sweep the kitchen & then pick stuff up off the living room floor. I multi-task online, I need to learn to do it in real life, too.

Part of what I’m doing online today is looking for a wallpaper border for my kitchen. I’m going to yank down the nasty, out-dated & greasy wallpaper in there, paint it & put a border on one wall. I’m also going to scrub the cabinets down really well, and prime & paint them. I need a cleaner that’s really good for removing grease, though, any suggestions? After I do all of that, I’ll make some cute curtains to match for both of the windows & the one cabinet that has no doors. I’m really excited about getting this started, I hate my kitchen so much and I just want it to look nice. I can’t wait!!

Today is a housework day, which is ok, I don’t have that much to do, really, I just need to get it done.

  • Do the Dishes
  • Do my Laundry
  • Clean counter tops and stove top
  • Sweep kitchen floor
  • Straighten up Living Room
  • Vacuum Living Room

I think that’s pretty much it, other than taking some turkey out for dinner & actually cooking dinner. Yay!

Monday Madness

1. Where you live, what kind of weather (or weather-related tragedy) do you fear the most? I guess that would be flooding, since I live really close to a flood plain. I don’t really fear it, though.
2. What kind of weather do you MOST enjoy? I love rainy days, I especially like thunderstorms, but they scare Tiny really badly.
3. What kind of weather do you LEAST like to drive in? Blizzard conditions at night.
4. What is the scariest weather-related experience you’ve had in your lifetime? When I was about 16, lightning struck a tree right across the driveway from where mom & I were standing in the kitchen. It was really scary when our hair starting standing up!
5. Share a “weather picture” with us!

Me & my self-timer again – I had a hard time deciding between this and one other. I liked them both, so you got this one!
